Needed Skills for Online Texas Holdem
Online Texas Holdem is nearly the same as land based poker although there are a few differences. The place where one plays Texas Holdem is the biggest difference. In Online Texas Holdem the player plays in front of his computer while land based Texas Holdem is played in poker rooms. But if you are a true blue Texas Holdem breather, it won’t matter where you play.
Whatever place you decide to play Texas Holdem you will need to have some skills to win. Here are some skills you may want to develop for Online Texas Holdem.
I. Table Selection:
An important skill to learn in Online Texas Holdem if you are looking to score big is table selection. It won’t matter how good of a player you are if the table you play does not have fish (amateur players). Income at a table with no fish comes from the rare mistakes of other players.
The best place to find fish are at the low-limit tables. There are lots of players who do not know what they are doing but try poker out. This is because of the poker games they see on the TV and it is these players you will want to find.
II. Hand Selection:
Learn to only play advantageous hands. In Online Texas Holdem you should be very patient to wait for good hands to come your way. Don’t be too gutsy to play bad hands in hopes getting something from the flop. If you’re impatient to wait for the right cards your exit from the game will be quick and you might end up being the fish someone else was looking for.
III. Read opponents' hands.
You will not need to be a psychic to become an expert at this needed skill however you will need to think about the range of hands and the probabilities of your opponents’ hands.
Position is important in the game of Texas Holdem to know what cards to hold or fold because knowledge of your opponents is a must. A player on the left of the small blind will be the first to decide to act or not.
The 1st player who decides will only have information on his own pocket cards. If you are seated at a late position you have the advantage of having a good idea if you should play your cards or not.
IV. Assess your opponent
Avoid doing other things while playing Online Texas Holdem. This is because you would need to make observations as to how your opponents play. Does your opponent flop easily? Bluff a lot? Raise a lot? Etc. More than likely your opponents are busy checking their email or watching TV and your concentration on the game is your best advantage.
V. Seat Selection:
You should choose a seat where the loose aggressive players are at your right and tight passive players at the left. This helps you see a raise to come before you decide to bet first. If the game is tight players often fold during the blind. Ideally you will want two passive players at your right as you would not want your blinds stolen.
VI. Learn to bluff sometimes.
“You can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time." – Abraham Lincoln’s tip at bluffing.
These are some of the skills you would need to master to be able to win at Online Texas Holdem.
